About the Film

Director De Bont's sophomore directorial effort is another non-stop adrenaline drive, but instead of a mad bomber, nature is the bad guy. Hunt leads a collegiate team of storm chasing scientists through Oklahoma in hopes of placing a robotic mechanism inside a tornado which, in turn, will help them predict and prepare for future funnel forces. There's also the matter of Hunt's soon-to-be ex-husband Paxton, and a competitor (Elwes) who's in charge of a slick group of rival scientists. There's a lot of things flying around, including trucks, houses, cows and the plausibility of the plot. But a contrived plot didn't keep from making $100 million in its first two weeks of release. Some nice chemistry between Hunt and Paxton, apparently the only people who can still look attractive in high winds and blowing debris.
