AKA: "Le Sirene du Mississippi"
Synopsis: Truffaut generally succeeds in merging his own directorial style with Hitchcockian suspense, but the U.S. release was cut by some 13 minutes and the restored version deserves a re-appraisal. Millionaire tobacco planter Louis (Belmondo) looks for a bride in the personals and finds Julie (Deneuve). Louis feels lucky landing this beauty until she leaves him and takes his money with her. After a breakdown, he finds his wife working in a dance-hall under another name. Louis agrees to a reconciliation, which proves to be a mistake. Look for numerous references to the movies, including Bogart, Balzac and Cocteau. Based on the Cornell Woolrich novel "Waltz into Darkness." French with subtitles.

Directed by: Francois Truffaut
Producer(s): Lopert, United Artists.
Cast: Jean-Paul Belmondo, Catherine Deneuve, Michel Bouquet, Nelly Borgeaud, Marcel Berbert, Martine Ferriere
